Receiving SNMPv3 Trap and Inform notifications over (D)TLS.
In addition to the standard SNMPv3 User-based Security Model (USM), MG-SOFT Trap Ringer implements also Transport Security Model (TSM) with support for SNMPv3 over (D)TLS (RFC 6353) and can be configured to receive SNMPv3 Trap and Inform notifications on any TLS/TCP and DTLS/UDP port (on IPv4 and IPv6). SNMPv3 over (D)TLS provides security at the transport layer using X.509 public key infrastructure. TLS or DTLS protocol establishes a secure "tunnel" between communicating parties, through which SNMP messages are sent (in case of Trap Ringer - SNMPv3 Trap and Inform messages).
Renewed and enhanced Web reports for Web monitoring of SNMP notifications.
The built-in Web reporting feature has undergone a complete design overhaul, now featuring a modern look and feel and utilizing popular technologies like JavaScript and JSON that enhance its performance and functionality. Trap Ringer can now generate and regularly update Web reports enabling near real-time monitoring of received SNMP notifications by using a Web browser. Web monitoring can be offline or online (e.g., if computer runs a Web server like IIS or Apache). The access to Web reports generated by Trap Ringer can be password protected and their contents can be sorted and filtered by any SNMP notification attribute (e.g., notification type, reception date and time, source address, SNMP version, variable binding name or value, etc.). All this makes the Web monitoring a viable alternative to the standard console monitoring of SNMP notifications in Trap Ringer GUI.
Support for HMAC-SHA-2 authentication protocols in SNMPv3 USM.
SNMPv3 User-based Security Model in Trap Ringer has been extended by implementing the modern HMAC-SHA-2 authentication protocols for USM, as specified in RFC 7860. The HMAC-SHA-2 authentication protocols provide a higher level of security than original HMAC-MD5-96 and HMAC-SHA-96 authentication protocols specified in RFC 3414. The newly supported authentication protocols are: HMAC-SHA-2-224, HMAC-SHA-2-256, HMAC-SHA-2-384 and HMAC-SHA-2-512.
Support for AES-192, AES-256 and 3DES privacy protocols in SNMPv3 USM.
In addition to the standard CBC-DES and CFB-AES-128 privacy protocols, the SNMPv3 User-based Security Model in Trap Ringer now supports receiving SNMP notifications encrypted with CFB-AES-192, CFB-AES-256 and CBC-3DES privacy protocols. These encryption protocols offer stronger security, especially when used in combination with the recently implemented HMAC-SHA-2 authentication protocols.
Receiving SNMP notifications on TCP ports.
In addition to the standard UDP transport protocol, Trap Ringer now supports receiving SNMP Trap and Inform notification messages conveyed also over connection-oriented TCP transport. Trap Ringer can be configured to listen to and receive SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, SNMPv3 USM, and SNMPv3 TSM (via D/TLS) notifications on any TCP or UDP port.
Forwarding SNMP notifications by using SNMPv3 TSM with (D)TLS transport.
The built-in notification proxy forwarding feature has been extended and now supports forwarding SNMP notification messages to any IPv4 or IPv6 address, UDP or TCP port or TLS/TCP or DTLS/UDP port. The latter two options are achieved by utilizing the SNMPv3 Transport Security Model (TSM) and conveying SNMPv3 Trap and Inform messages over secure TLS or DTLS transport using X.509 public key infrastructure.
64-bit version of the application.
In addition to the 32-bit (x86) version, Trap Ringer for Windows is now available also in 64-bit (x86_64) version, which runs natively on 64-bit operating systems that allow addressing significantly more memory.

One can perform search by virtually any SNMP notification category, like the notification type (name), reception date and time, source address, community name, enterprise OID, included variable bindings, etc. Moreover, active search operation behaves as a continuous display filter so all newly received SNMP notifications that match the search conditions are automatically added to the list of search results (until the search is cancelled). Search results can be exported to CSV (comma separated value) text files for external use.
Sending e-mails with user authentication and TLS/SSL transport support.
Trap Ringer now supports modern ESMTP mail servers that feature or require user authentication (AUTH LOGIN) and/or secure connections via TLS or SSL transport protocol. Therefore, electronic mail messages carrying information about received SNMP notifications can be successfully sent with almost any type of (E)SMTP server, including those used by the popular free e-mail providers.
Intelligent command execution control.
This new feature controls the performance of executing external programs/scripts by Trap Ringer and effectively prevents the system from overloading in case of incoming Trap bursts. New settings have been introduced on the individual command output level (e.g., terminate process after X seconds) and on the global, per-machine level (e.g., total number of simultaneously running processes, number of processes to start in a set), so the execution performance and limits can be fine tuned to running specific commands (programs/scripts), based on their nature and resources usage and the capacity of the computer running Trap Ringer Pro.
Resolving values through MIB display-hint clause.
Trap Ringer now supports formatting and displaying the values of variable bindings included in SNMP Trap and Inform messages according to the DISPLAY-HINT clause (if present) of the relevant TEXTUAL CONVENTION macro that is used as the syntax of the given MIB object (e.g., DateAndTime, etc.). Displaying the smallest pieces of information in a user-friendly manner makes Trap Ringer Pro. even more convenient and versatile.
