What's New in MG-SOFT SNMP Agent Simulator, Version 8

Support for Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022.
MG-SOFT SNMP Agent Simulator and the bundled MIB Compiler have been tested to successfully install and run also on the most recent Microsoft Windows operating systems at the time of publishing - Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022.
Dark theme.
In addition to the regular Light visual theme, the application user interface now features also Dark visual theme that employs darker color tones. Dark theme offers a modern look and feel and may reduce eyestrain. One can switch between the Dark and Light mode at any time in the program preferences.
Revamped user interface.
The application graphical user interface has been refreshed to provide a sleek modern look with new icons and graphical symbols in both Light and Dark visual theme. Some windows and dialog boxes have been redesigned to ensure a streamlined and highly efficient workflow. Besides, the user interface has undergone some maintenance and polishing in terms of visibility and usability on high pixel density displays and now looks perfect also on 4K/HiDPI monitors.
Latest version of OpenSSL 3.0 Included.
This is the first SNMP Agent Simulator release that comes with the 3.0.x version of OpenSSL library, which is utilized for SNMPv3 over (D)TLS. The software has been adapted to work properly with OpenSSL 3.0.x (migrating from 1.1.x version), ensuring to use the newest features and latest security updates regarding TLS and DTLS protocols.
Improved application performance and stability.
Many optimizations and performance improvements have been implemented both, in SNMP Agent Simulator service and GUI part of the application. Furthermore, all known issues in previous versions have been fixed and overall stability and reliability of the software has been improved.
Enhanced documentation.

What's New in MG-SOFT SNMP Agent Simulator, Version 7

Support for SNMPv3 over TLS and DTLS (RFC 6353).
MG-SOFT SNMP Agent Simulator now supports also SNMPv3 Transport Security Model (TSM) and lets you simulate SNMP agents that support SNMPv3 over TLS and DTLS, both over IPv4 and IPv6 transports. Simulated agent instances support performing all SNMPv3 operations over (D)TLS, including sending of SNMPv3 Trap and Inform messages over (D)TLS. SNMP over (D)TLS utilizes X.509 public key infrastructure and provides strong security on the transport layer.
Support for AES-192, AES-256 and 3DES privacy protocols in SNMPv3 USM.
In addition to the standard CBC-DES and CFB-AES-128 privacy protocols, the SNMPv3 User-based Security Model in SNMP Agent Simulator now supports also the CFB-AES-192, CFB-AES-256 and CBC-3DES privacy protocols. These encryption protocols offer stronger security, especially when used in combination with the HMAC-SHA-2 family of authentication protocols.
Improved application performance and stability.
Many optimizations and performance improvements have been implemented both, in SNMP Agent Simulator service and GUI part of the application. Furthermore, all known issues in previous versions have been fixed and overall stability and reliability of the software has been improved.

The SNMP Agent Simulator installer installs the latest HASP driver available at the time of publishing to ensure stronger security and flawless operation of the USB HASP dongle bundled with the licensed version of the software.

What's New in MG-SOFT SNMP Agent Simulator, Version 6

Support for Windows Server 2019 operating system.
SNMP Agent Simulator successfully installs and runs also on the most recent Microsoft Windows Server operating system - Windows Server 2019.
HiDPI support for best experience on modern displays (e.g. UHD/4K).
SNMP Agent Simulator and the bundled MIB Compiler application are now "aware" of the system display DPI settings and automatically scale the size of their GUI components (dialogs, buttons, icons) and text accordingly to achieve the best visibility and usability also on today's high pixel density (HiDPI) displays.
Support for SNMP over TCP.
In addition to the standard SNMP over UDP protocol, SNMP Agent Simulator now supports also SNMP over connection-oriented TCP transport protocol. The software thus lets you simulate SNMP devices that listen on arbitrary UDP or TCP ports and IPv4 or IPv6 addresses and respond to SNMP over UDP and SNMP over TCP queries. TCP transport can be used with all supported versions of the SNMP protocol (SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, SNMPv3 USM).
Support for HMAC-SHA-2 authentication protocols for SNMPv3 USM.
SNMP Agent Simulator now lets you simulate SNMP agents that use HMAC-SHA-2 family of authentication protocols for SNMPv3 USM as specified in RFC 7860. The HMAC-SHA-2 authentication protocols provide a higher level of security than original HMAC-MD5-96 and HMAC-SHA-96 authentication protocols specified in RFC 3414. The newly supported authentication protocols are: HMAC-SHA-2-224, HMAC-SHA-2-256, HMAC-SHA-2-384 and HMAC-SHA-2-512.
Enhanced support for editing MIB tables via the SNMP Set operation.
The ability to create, modify and destroy new instances (conceptual rows) in MIB tables of simulated agents through SNMP Set request has been significantly revised and enhanced. The software properly implements the row creation methods supported by the RowStatus (SMIv2) and EntryStatus (SMIv1) table objects and enables instantiation of new rows in read-create tables, correctly setting the default values of columnar objects as defined in the respective MIB. SNMP Agent Simulator supports also modification and deletion of existing rows in SNMP tables in a standard manner through SNMP Set operation.
Enhanced support for customizing live agent behavior.
The software now lets you configure custom (fixed) values also for OIDs of type octet-string, IP address and OID in order to facilitate simulating even more sophisticated agent behavior by using memory consumption efficient manner.

What's New in MG-SOFT SNMP Agent Simulator, Version 5

Support for Windows Server 2016 operating system.
SNMP Agent Simulator successfully installs and runs also on the most recent Microsoft Windows Server operating system - Windows Server 2016.
Take a snapshot of the entire (sub)network.
The software incorporates a new functionality that lets you start scanning and taking SNMP snapshots from arbitrary ranges of IP addresses, ports and individual SNMP devices with a single click of a button. This feature lets you create a snapshot of the entire (sub)network at the same time in order to capture a consistent state of SNMP agents on interconnected devices, so the network can be simulated even more realistically.
Improved and enhanced agent snapshot editor.
The built-in agent snapshot editor (MIB object instance editor) is now even more versatile with enhanced functions that let you quickly add new table instances (rows), easily remove table instances (rows), add new leaf object instances with arbitrary OID, syntax and value, find specific OIDs and values, etc. In addition, the performance of the agent snapshot editor has been greatly improved, meaning that large agent snapshots now load and display significantly faster.
New SNMP statistics graph.
Collected SNMP traffic statistics (e.g., the number of received and sent SNMP packets, number of queried OIDs, number of sent SNMP Traps, etc.) can now be displayed and monitored in a graph (multi-line chart). The graph is automatically updated to show the current changes in SNMP traffic fluctuations for the given SNMP agent.
Improved application performance and stability.
Many optimizations and performance improvements have been implemented both, in SNMP Agent Simulator service and GUI part of the application. Furthermore, all known issues in previous versions have been fixed and overall stability and reliability of the software has been improved.
Significantly extended collection of standard MIB files.
The software now ships with a significantly extended collection of 379 standard MIB modules, which we extracted from RFC documents. MG-SOFT SNMP Agent Simulator lets you generate an agent snapshot from any number of standard and private MIB files and simulate SNMP agents "implementing" these MIB modules.

64-bit build of the application leverages the power of modern computers.
In addition to 32-bit version, MG-SOFT SNMP Agent Simulator is now available also in 64-bit version (x86_64 architecture), which can utilize significantly more memory. This makes the software even more powerful, virtually allowing it to simulate up to 100,000 of SNMP agent instances.
Support for MS Windows 10 operating system.

Completely overhauled GUI with a modern look and feel.
The SNMP Agent Simulator graphical user interface has been completely renovated - introducing modern looks and greater usability with dockable windows and simplified menus. This makes the application even more intuitive, user- friendly and attractive.
New mechanism for editing multiple SNMP agents.
The software incorporates a new intuitive interface that lets you select multiple SNMP agent instances and efficiently edit their properties (e.g., change SNMP profile, IP address, port, live agent templates, etc.). This feature lets you quickly and easily edit existing simulation configurations containing a large number of simulated agent instances.
Significantly improved performance of SNMP Agent Simulator Engine.
The SNMP Agent Simulator Engine service has been enhanced and optimized for speed, performance and reliability. As a result, bulk operations, like creating, starting and stopping a large number of SNMP agent instances now complete significantly faster. Furthermore, collecting and computing SNMP statistics for simulated agents takes only a fraction of resources required before.

SNMP Agent Simulator now successfully installs and runs also on the most recent Microsoft Windows operating systems, Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8.
Enhanced multiple SNMP agent creation mechanism.
The intuitive interface for adding multiple SNMP agent instances now lets you specify the name prefix for SNMP agent instances to be created with the software automatically adding the instance numbering suffix. Furthermore, the IP address ranges for simulated SNMP agents are now always calculated based on the specified netmask, allowing all valid non-broadcast IP addresses to be used for SNMP agent simulation.
Enhanced live agent settings.
Random increase and random decrease value change options can now be configured in live agent templates to facilitate simulating even more realistic agent behavior.
Import SNMP notifications from MIB Browser Trap Ringer file.
SNMP Trap and Inform notifications captured by MG-SOFT MIB Browser Pro application and saved to Trap Ringer XML file format (.trfx) can be imported directly into SNMP Agent Simulator Trap templates. These captured notifications can be edited in SNMP agent Simulator or used unchanged in order to simulate the exact same sequence of notification sending as exhibited by one or more SNMP devices on the network.
